For my summer reading project, I read Dramarama by E. LockhartSocial issue: Friendships and Identity
1) The main character's name is Sadye, and she is an outspoken, independent girl. Sadye is very dramatic.
2) Sadye and her best friend Demi are going to a summer theatre camp. When they get to camp, they make new friends and perform a 10 day wonder, which is a play they have to put on in a week. After the play, Sadye and Demi get caught with beer, and Sadye takes the blame and gets kicked out of camp.
3) I think the author is trying to say that summer is only a short amount of time, but friendships are forever. Sadye and Demi stayed friends even after she got expelled from camp.
1) Sadye is affected by friendship in this story because she was willing to end her fun at camp just so her best friend could continue going there. Her identity in the story changes from a shy girl named Sarah who does not fit in to an outspoken popular girl named Sadye. Sadye realizes that she has a lot more inside her than she originally thought, and she can make the right choice in her friendships.
2) The first event I chose was when Sadye and Demi were in the car on the way to camp. Demi told her to be who she really wanted to be and let go and have fun. That is when Sadye realized her true identity. The second event I chose was at the end of the book when Sadye confessed to bringing the beer up onto the roof. She was not even the one who actually got the beer, but she confessed so Demi could stay at camp year round. She realized that her lifelong friendship with Demi was much more important than camp.
